Prior to her work at SHIFT NC, Krista served as the Communications & Public Relations Director at Girl Scouts – NC Coastal Pines. She also spent a decade on the staff at the Orange County Rape Crisis Center (Chapel Hill, NC) where her tenure included numerous years of experience working directly with youth, their parents, and teachers, in addition to direct client service provision. Additionally, she has a wide-range of experiences providing educational programming, professional training, and technical assistance for diverse groups and organizations.
Her understanding of social issues and community work formed around the same time in her life and notes that her deep connection to both are knit together in ways that have often been both powerful and humbling. She brings passion and a strong commitment to issues affecting youth and has an interest in youth leadership and healthy sexual development.
Krista currently practices the art of blending new and traditional media to amplify the mission of SHIFT NC’s community and statewide initiatives. She holds both a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications and a B.A. in Women’s Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Go Tarheels! When not a busy word smith, Krista likes to curl up with a good book, tend to her garden, and re-explore childhood with her two boys.
